Staff and residents lament about the dilapidated Assin Kushea Health Centre

 farming community in Assin North of the central region, Assin Kushea is deprived of better health facility. The Assin Kushea health center has not been renovated and advanced since its establishment two decades ago.

The health facility also provides services to more than fourteen neighboring communities.

The state of the facility is very pitiful, some windows and doors are wrecked beyond maintenance.

The floors are not tiles and has numerous splintered holes.

The health center lacks chairs for patients in the waiting area, thus patients have to stand in queue to access health service.

Some rooms have no electricity, patients admitted sleep on ragged mattresses in the dark. The washroom is not attractive and has irregular flow of water, some patients in regard to this issue bath outside and bring along a chamber for excretory activities.

In addition, the health facility serving thousands of people is under resourced especially, the maternity department which has only one midwife. There is no orderly, dispensary assistant, health aid and a laborer. As a results, nurses available perform double tasks.

In an interview with a patient who shared her worry further added that the facility is at its worst since it does not look appealing enough to provide health service.

She also lamented about the absence of solar system at the facility.

The head physician at the Assin Kushea health center Stephen Abbresse mentioned that the state of the facility cries comfortless for him and his staff to openly provide the necessary service.

Meanwhile, one of the chiefs, Benjamin Jonah has started the construction of a new facility which head physician describes as helpful.

The new facility will be very helpful as it will accommodate twenty beds each for both female and male ward, an x-ray, nursing changing room, two consulting rooms, maternity ward and a kitchen.

He also promised to construct bungalows for staff.  According to plans, the old facility will be renovated after the completion of the new for other department.
