Effect of Covid-19 on the sale of local beverages

The sales of local beverages have faced drastic change since the outbreak of the Covid-19. Local beverages such as sobolo, lamugen, asana, pinto, Burkina, etc are consumed in all areas throughout Ghana. Some beverages like sobolo was in higher demand because it was believed that ingredients used help boost the immune system.
Burkina ,local beverageJames Addo, who sells local beverages at events, says "the virus has affected his sales and has changed his marketing strategy and positioning. Before Covid-19,his sales was normal because there were no peck of people attending occasions but after the pandemic it reduced drastically because the President had placed a limit on the number of people allowed to attend gatherings and it also applies to small scale ones.

The demand, coupled with limited local production and delay in importation resulted in scarcity and an increase in the prices of some essential commodities. Also, Ahajia Khadijah, a Burkina (made of grounded millet and pasteurized milk) trader has appealed to the government to reduce the prices of some ingredients used in making their beverages to help reduce their consumers complains about the quantity of their beverage.
